The official Danish street name is Dronningens Gade, meaning The Queens. Main Street. In the 1800’s multiple fires destroyed up to 1200 buildings in a single fire. The fires influenced architectural character of today’s building, using masonry construction. Main Street, is lined with countless historical architectural treasures. Its architectural style with stately arches and intricately designed balcony rails and gateways are from colonial times. The buildings along the south side were warehouses to store products of trade, while the buildings on the north side were designed as townhouses.
