Ah Come Fo’ Me Guavaberry Story (Ä Cum Fō Mā Gwävä Bĕrē)

Translation: I Come For My Guavaberry

Naming of this storied piece is inspired by a traditional Virgin Islands Christmas song, the “Guavaberry Song” written by Virgin Islands’ composer Bill La Motta.  The song, itself, highlights the custom of sharing during the festive period of Christmas.

Simple and Sweet

These berries are not as bountiful as in the past, yet they can fetch up to $25 per pound. Guavaberry is like gold around Christmas time. We stew the berries using simple ingredients, good quality brown sugar, white sugar and good quality cinnamon sticks, usually purchased from the local farmers market instead of the grocery store. These ingredients are added to rum, both fresh and aged.
